How to Take Courses
The Applied Languages Certificate Program is an interdisciplinary program at CCU. According to the university’s Credit Program Guidelines, students who wish to enroll in this program must apply through the program office in accordance with the program’s regulations. Only those who pass the selection process and are admitted into the program may take its courses.
To support the university’s efforts in promoting international exchange, and without affecting course availability for program students (with a maximum of 30 students per course), exchange (visiting) students may be allowed to apply for and take courses offered by this program during their exchange period. In principle, each student may enroll in one course per semester.
Enrollment Instructions for Certificate Program Students
Students enrolled in the program must take at least one course per semester. Course selection process is as follows:
- Phase One: Online Course Selection
Students must choose courses appropriate to their proficiency level. During the first phase (according to the university’s academic calendar), course selection is done online. Please refer to the course syllabus for specific enrollment requirements.
- Phase Two: Add/Drop Period – On-site Waiting List
Students who were not enrolled in their desired courses through the online system, or who wish to add a course, may join the waiting list in person. This must be done during the first week of class at the 2nd floor lobby of the Center for Language Studies. Admission will be granted in order, based on available seats.
Course Enrollment for Exchange (Visiting) Students
- Exchange (visiting) students wishing to take courses in the program must submit a completed application form to the program office before the first week of classes and attend a required pre-course proficiency assessment. The assessment schedule is listed on the application form. Failure to attend may result in denied enrollment at the instructor’s discretion.
- When a course reaches full capacity, additional enrollment is allowed only with the instructor’s explicit consent and only if it does not affect seat allocation for full-time CCU students. No more than two students may be admitted beyond the official enrollment limit.
- Applicants must submit their current course schedule, valid proof of English proficiency (e.g., standardized test results), and a ranked list of course preferences. Exchange (visiting) students are generally limited to one course per semester. Enrollment in under-enrolled courses requires the instructor’s approval.
Program Suspension/Withdrawal
- Students enrolled in the program are required to take at least one program course each semester. Failure to enroll in any program course for two consecutive semesters will be regarded as a voluntary withdrawal from the program.
- Graduate students (master’s or doctoral level) receiving public funding (e.g., Ministry of Education or NSTC grants) who are required to study abroad for more than one semester may apply for a temporary suspension of program enrollment. Supporting documentation is required. The suspension may be granted only once and is limited to a maximum of two years (four semesters). Only one suspension request is permitted per student.
- Students intending to withdraw from the program must submit a completed application before the first week of the semester in which the withdrawal is to take effect, in accordance with the university academic calendar. All applications are subject to review and approval by the program committee.
